La Russa: the dossiers are all like that, they are never laudatory

Rome- President Ignazio La Russa, the publication on Linkedin of the criticisms by the research office of the Senate Budget Service of the Calderoli reform on the differentiated autonomy of the Regions is a political case. There are those who suspect the intervention of a little hand. And there are those who foreshadow the hypothesis of an intervention by her behind the scenes. Wasn’t that little hand his?
Hand! No president of the Senate would be foolish enough to do such a thing and expose himself to justified criticism.

Inspire her?
Neither. However, there was no “moral suasion” operation of mine. These are relationships that never pass through my offices. They tell me that it was only a draft still sub iudice.

Do you have any suspicions? Do you think it was a maneuver by the centre-left?
There is no “little hand”. It was a pure mistake.

However, in the League itself, a move hostile to the party is feared. Wasn’t it?
There is no background of political significance. It was a dossier like many others that was published by mistake before he was fired from office.

And you didn’t intervene?
My only intervention after the case had arisen was to say that the file should not be withdrawn.

Why?
It would have been like sweeping the dust under the rug. Or, worse, make censorship cry out. I suggested that they simply tell the truth that the release was by mistake before going through the normal processing in cases like these.

Suspicion filters from the League. There are those who, like the group leader in the Chamber Massimiliano Romeo, leave all hypotheses open. wrong?
This afternoon I spoke with the Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomy of the Republic, Roberto Calderoli, who knows the process of the dossiers well, having been vice president of the Senate for a long time. aware that there was no maneuver.

What makes him think that?
I documented myself also taking into consideration the solicitations of the leader of the Democratic Party in the Senate, Francesco Boccia. I asked the heads of the offices for a complete report on the matter which I did not know before.

However, strong criticisms were expressed in the opinion, in line with some that also meander in his party. A coincidence?
Files are often like this.

What how?
They also always highlight the critical points. They are never laudatory. They are not used to say: “Oh how beautiful this law is”. If anything, dealing with the Department of the Budget, I would have expected more attention to the numbers, rather than to other evaluations.

Do you share the concerns expressed that the reform may favor some regions over others?
It is not up to me, as president of the Senate, to express judgments on the matter. But if I had written that opinion would have been different.

How?
On the reform, I repeat, it is not up to the president of the Senate to evaluate. But since I was politically born before this job (and I hope to survive even after), without saying how I would have written it, I repeat that I would have written it differently. But this counts for little because the dossiers are written by technicians and not by politicians.

But aren’t similar doubts about the reform also circulating within Fratelli d’Italia?
I don’t know that there are internal conflicts within the government on the reforms. Or at least nobody told me about it. Indeed, the idea that I have that there is broad agreement in the government on the matter.

Brothers of Italy to relaunch the referendum on the definitive text of the reform.
The referendum provides for the Constitution. The government does not decide it, if anything a consequence of the decision of the Chambers. It would only take effect if the reform, despite having been approved in the second vote by an absolute majority of the members of each Chamber, had not obtained the favorable vote of at least two thirds. I think you are referring to the fact that the entire majority has declared that they do not want to be vetoed. But I am sure that everyone is hoping for a very large majority which would avoid any possibility of a referendum.

Will there be a slowdown in the process of this reform or will it continue to go hand in hand with that of presidentialism?
The architect of the reforms is Parliament. And we will have all the space available to arrive at reforms that are as shared as possible in every way possible.
