According to Istat, employment in the first quarter of 2023 increased by half a million compared to the previous year. Yet Landini and the CGIL continue to point the finger indiscriminately at precarious contracts. Reasons to change scheme

Employment increased by more than half a million units in the first quarter of 2023 (compared to the same period of the previous year): Istat communicates it. The composition of employment also favors stability: permanent employees grew by 3.7 per cent, while temporary employees decreased by 2.7. The unemployed fell by 3.5 and the inactive by 4.3 percent. Hours worked per employee also increased by 4.6 while layoffs fell to 8.7 hours for every thousand hours worked. These data are in contrast with the trade union protest, especially from the CGIL, which insists on denouncing the “precariousness” of employment relationships. Naturally there are sectors in which this phenomenon is more worrying, but the general figure is that of an increase in employment and above all of stable employment and the increase in hours worked indicates a reduction in part-time forms of work (which do not always coincide with precariousness, given that there are regular seasonal contracts in some agricultural and service but also industrial sectors).
