There is also a little bit of Italy, at least in the setting, among the winners of the Golden Globes: the second season of The White Lotuslittle big Hbo cult signed by Mike Whitewon two prizes, the one as best miniseries and the one for the best supporting actress, went to Jennifer Coolidge. Set in a luxurious hotel in Taormina, The White Lotus (which in Italy can be watch on Sky and streaming on NOW) sees a colorful group of rich American tourists walking around the beauties of Sicily, between Palermo, Noto and Cefal. There is no shortage of Italian actors in the cast, starting with Sabrina Impacciatore who has literally conquered the American public with this role.

Director Mike White

Mike White, creator and director of the series – already working on the third season – took the Golden Globes stage paying homage to Italy: I wanted to give the speech in Italian but I’m too drunk, he said when receiving the award, then thanking the extraordinary Italian crew who worked with him in Sicily.

Jennifer Coolidge’s speech

Jennifer Coolidge, 61 years old, continues to collect satisfactions with this role: beloved by the public in the tragicomic role of Tanyaprotagonist of many memes, is already very popular on social media for the speech with which he accepted the award (it also contains a spoiler, which we will omit): I just wanted to tell you that I had such big dreams when I was younger and then what happens life dulls them. I mean I wanted to be queen of Monaco and whatever someone else did, I had these giant ideas and then you get old and I mean, Mike White, you gave me hope. You changed my life in a thousand different ways. Now the neighbors are talking to me, stuff like that. I’ve never been invited to any party and now everyone invites me.

The plot of The White Lotus

Coolidge is the only actress featured in both seasons 1 and 2 of The White Lotus: The Series It Focuses On a group of wealthy American tourists on vacation (in the first season they are in a resort in Hawaii, in the second in Taormina), grappling with more or less problematic family dynamics, with relationships that go into crisis and mend themselves, betrayals and hatreds. The characters are portrayed without discounts in their vices and whims, so much so that it is difficult to truly empathize with any of them. Every season starts with the discovery of a corpse whose identity is revealed only in the last episode: the mood is therefore an unprecedented mix of comedy, drama and a pinch of yellow.

Sicily

To stage the second season are the beauties of Sicilyalso praised by the characters: the protagonists are staying in a hotel in Taormina (in reality the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace, apparently already besieged by fans of the series), but then they move between Noto, Cefal and Palermo, between frescoed villas and picturesque streets, with vespa rides, tastings in the vineyards and luxurious parties. There are, in the scenes, tributes to Italian cinema and to the great interpreters of music: De Andr, Mina, Rosa Balistreri and many others intersperse the main theme of the soundtrackcomposed by Juan Cristobal Tapia de Veer (another cult of the series).

The cast

In addition to Jennifer Coolidge and Sabrina Impacciatore, The White Lotus 2 stars F. Murray Abraham (Oscar for Amadeus), Adam DiMarco, Meghann Fahy, Michael Imperioli, Aubrey Plaza. Two other Italian actresses, Beatrice Grann and Simona Tabascowho play two cunning escorts in the series, convinced the audience with their performance.
