Villa San Martino in Arcore

It is not easy to map the real estate empire that Silvio Berlusconi – who died on Monday 12 June, at the age of 86 – bequeathed.

Among the many villas that will end up in the inheritance, there is certainly the one that was the former premier’s residence for almost 50 years, since in 1974 he bought it, with the intermediation of Cesare Previti, from the last heir of the marquises Casati Stampa di Soncino, who sold it in exchange for a very low amount: only 500 million lire compared to the valuation that exceeded one billion and 700 million lire at the time. Villa San Martino, in Arcore, complete with art gallery, library of ten thousand volumes – to take care of which Marcello Dell’Utri was hired as librarian – furnishings and park with stables, directly registered to the former premier and not, as in the case of other properties, owned of the former prime minister’s real estate company. The residence is 3,500 square meters wide and, if we also consider the other Berlusconi villas in the area (Villa Belvedere, in Macherio, and Villa Campari, on Lake Maggiore), the indicative value reaches around 100 million euros.
