The total number of workers rises to over 23 million, a figure almost 300 thousand higher than in the same month in 2022. A positive trend that is reflected in almost all the statistics of the Italian market

Another twenty-two thousand new jobs in Italy, in the ISTAT data released today and relating to March of this year: a total number which thus rises to over 23 million and which exceeds the figure for the same month in 2022 by almost 300 thousand units. A result achieved “following the increase in permanent and self-employed employees and in the face of a decrease in temporary employees”, explains the Institute of Statistics. The positive trend has continued for months and is also reflected in the unemployment rate, which fell to 7.8 percent. On the other hand, the inactivity rate (33.8 per cent) and the employment rate, at 60.9 per cent, remained unchanged compared to the previous month. In general, the good dynamics of the Italian labor market can be read in many figures in the Istat report: for example in the youth unemployment rate, which drops to 22.3 per cent (albeit with some shadows in the age group between 25-34 years). Or again in the numbers of female employment, up slightly (+0.1 percent) to 51.6 percent.

The trend is even more evident if we take the data for 2018 as a yardstick: five years ago the unemployment rate was almost three percentage points higher (10.7 vs. 7.8). A number that, from mid-2021 onwards, has practically never stopped decreasing.
