The video screened on Saturday at the Teatro Argentina in Rome, on the occasion of the remembrance organized by the family for the director, artistic director of the Festival dei Due Mondi from 2008 to 2020

For thirteen editions, from 2008 to 2020, Giorgio Ferrara was the artistic director of the Festival dei Due Mondi, which revived and returned to the international prestige of the Gian Carlo Menotti years, after a severe crisis. Among the major Italian directors, Ferrara had ranged between theater, cinema, opera, together with his wife Adriana Asti. He was linked to Spoleto from the beginning of his career, which took place in 1969, as assistant director of Luca Ronconi for the famous “Orlando furioso”. At the time he had met maestro Menotti whose inheritance he had taken over in 2008, kicking off a magnificent adventure, which ended with the extraordinary and complex edition of 2020, in the midst of the pandemic.

The Festival dei Due Mondi, which is close to Adriana Asti and her family, also wanted to remember it with this video, made under the artistic direction of Sabina Leoni. “The sign of Ferrara in the history of the Festival – underlines the current artistic director of the Festival Monique Veaute – passes through the artists of global importance that it has been able to bring to Spoleto edition after edition. To its great knowledge of the Theater we owe the presence of names such as Luca Ronconi and Robert Wilson just as significant were his directions from Menotti’s Amelia al ballo to Henze’s Gogo no eiko, from Britten’s Turn of the screw to Mozart’s trilogy. The world of Italian culture and theater loses one of the most significant in recent years”.
