The 18.5 of the 19 billion that were to be released by the European Commission in March will arrive. A possible agreement also on the fourth installment of 16.5 billion will soon be possible
The one that brought together the ministers today at Palazzo Chigi was a lightning control room: the news is that there is an agreement with Brussels to release the third installment of 19 billion. As Il Foglio had anticipated, the government has finally found an agreement with the European Commission to allow the arrival of the funds. The request for the third installment had reached Brussels at the end of 2022, but a series of critical issues delayed it several times the release initially scheduled for March. The agreement that Minister Raffaele Fitto illustrated to the control room envisages the renunciation of a small part of the funds, 519 million, in exchange Italy will have more time to take care of the new beds in the student residencesone of the objectives that slowed down the negotiations with Brussels.
According to the newspaper, within the next week the Commission will announce that it has reached an agreement with the Italian government also on the fourth installment (the formal request will be sent very quickly from Palazzo Chigi to Brussels), thus also unlocking the latter which will therefore be worth 16.5 billion (instead of 16) against 28 (instead of 27) objectives, for a total of 35 billion. In fact, the fourth installment will also integrate the blocked 519 million, and the achievement of the objective on student accommodation.
