The technicians of the Senate crush the autonomy. And the poisons between Lega and FdI start

“An interim draft, not yet verified, on the autonomy bill was mistakenly posted online. The Budget Service apologizes to the press and users for the inconvenience caused”. These are the last words, to try to remedy the mess, published by Palazzo Madama, in a political incident that risks exacerbating tensions in the majority and, at the same time, casting a shadow on the reform advocated by the League.

It all started with a post on Linkedin. Yesterday afternoon, on the official page of the Senate, a document entitled: “The cost of differentiated autonomy” appeared. For a few hours, before the deflagrasse case and Palazzo Madama backtracked, it was possible to access a detailed analysis of the Northern League minister’s text Robert Calderoli, approved in the CDM last February. The conclusions of the Budget Service are pessimistic to say the least: analysts predict an increase in the burdens “borne by public finance”, the danger of accentuating inequalities between north and south and the weakening of fundamental services in less wealthy regions.

A judgment that in many ways follows the general opinion of the oppositions. But, unlike the sometimes instrumental criticisms of those who oppose the (League’s) government project, this time we enter into the technical merits of the bill. For example, speaking of the Lep, the “essential performance levels” with which the various parameters are established that the individual regions will then have to respect, now being defined: “Onerous effects may materialize when the relative essential performance levels are determined ( Lep) concerning civil and social rights that must be guaranteed throughout the national territory”, says the draft. Other observations follow, however, as soon as they became aware of what had happened, the document was initially eliminated, only to be republished later, with the clarification that it was “a provisional and unverified text”. However, the subsequent apologies were not enough to contain the reactions of the opposition and of the allies themselves.

Differentiated autonomy has in fact been the most important battle carried out by the League for months. Minister Calderoli would have immediately telephoned the president of the Senate, Ignatius LaRussa, headed by the budget office, asking not only for the elimination of the draft, but also for an adequate denial. According to some sources there was even a phone call between Matteo Salvini and Giorgia Meloni, who in the meantime was in Iceland for the Council of Europe. Beyond the resistance of the Senate, distrust of the Brothers of Italy persists in the League: a culprit is being sought and a conspiracy hatched by the premier’s party against the Northern League reform can be glimpsed. Someone notices that, among the “likes” to the post on Linkedin, there was also that of the professor Renato Loiero, former head of the Budget Service and current economic adviser to Giorgia Meloni. A curious coincidence perhaps. But enough to fuel Carroccio’s suspicions.
