The Lazio Regional Administrative Court has postponed the hearing on the Piombino regasification terminal, one of the main works to guarantee Italian energy security, to 20 December. Administrative justice thus provided an elegant excuse to the mayor of the Tuscan city, Francesco Ferrari of the Brothers of Italy, to slip out of an awkward position. While, in fact, the Meloni government has made the certainty of supplies a founding element of its energy and environmental policy, just one member of his party got in the way and represented the loudest obstacle to a work that everyone considers necessary. Unfortunately, the mayor chose to insist, continuing undeterred in the cause. Which is paradoxical, not only on a political level, but also on a substantial one: the process, in fact, will last years. Regardless of the validity of the accusations – which the technicians judge to be inconsistent – the Golar Tundra ship will instead remain anchored in its current location for only three years, after which it will have to find an alternative accommodation.
