A 2023 of recession in the South, the same dynamics are expected for 2024. For the next few years, between Pnrr and European cohesion funds, unprecedented resources are destined for the South: 250 billion euros

The Svimez report is, like every year, an important opportunity to analyze the economy of the South. The trend is always the same, with the north doing better than the south when things go well and the south doing worse than the north when things go badly. The post-Covid two-year period was no exception, with the recovery affecting the whole country, but more intensely in the north than in the south. Which in turn, after the energy shock, according to Svimez estimates will see a recession in 2023 (-0.4 per cent) compared to a positive figure for Italy (+0.5) driven by the centre-north (+0 ,8). The same dynamic is expected for 2024, when the South will grow at a rate that is half the national rate.
