The Russian economy is recovering, more incisive sanctions are needed

Among the proposals there is the strengthening of sanctions on oil and gas, on non-energy exports, support for the divestment of Western companies from Russia, a general strengthening of compliance and the application of secondary sanctions to third countries

According to forecasts by Izvestia, one of the most popular Russian newspapers, in 2023, GDP will grow by 0.9 percent: a more optimistic scenario than that of the IMF (+0.7 percent) and more pessimistic than that of the Russian Economy Ministry (+1.2 percent). The recovery should be supported by domestic demand and the reorientation of exports to China and India.
