On the other hand, FdI was against it, which supported, in vain, the request wanted by the Popolari. «Once again the left has shown its true anti-Italian face, supporting the request of the socialist, green and communist groups which reduces the need for a European solution to just saving lives, forgetting the need to regulate immigration also protecting the external borders», protested Nicola Procaccini and Carlo Fidanza.

In any case, the debate will be held on Tuesday afternoon and will be attended by the Commission and the EU Council. It had already seemed clear from Weber’s move that the Plenary was inflamed over the migrant dossier. In an interview with Corsera, the leader of the Popolari chose to use the carrot for Italy and the stick for the capitals targeted by the majority, Paris and Berlin. «I thank the Italian government for the way it welcomes migrants and tries to save them. The dialogue between the EPP and the Conservatives also runs along the track of migrants which, after the Europeans, could subvert the pattern of the Ursula majority. In the EPP the debate is open and it intersects with the rebus of who will be the future Spitzenkanidaten of the Populars. On the one hand there is the president of the EP Roberta Metsola, who according to the rumors of the Eurochamber is on the rise. On the other, Ursula von der Leyen, who has not resolved her reservations and who, perhaps not by chance, met the board of the CDU on Monday. And the Christian Democrats are ready to support it.
