Mourning in the world of motors. Hyundai WRC driver Craig Breen died in a crash during a test ahead of this week’s Rally Croatia. Breen, 33, went off the road on the course between Stari Golubovac and Lobora, and his Hyundai i20 N Rally1 collided with a pole, fatally injuring the Irishman. Local authorities confirmed that a fatal accident had occurred shortly after noon, without disclosing the identity of the victim.

The co-pilot was unhurt

From what has been learned, however, Breen’s co-driver, James Fulton, was not injured. Hyundai Motorsport deeply saddened to confirm driver Craig Breen lost his life following a crash today during testing ahead of Rally Croatia. Co-pilot James Fulton was unhurt in the crash, which occurred shortly after noon local time. Hyundai Motorsport expresses its deepest condolences to Craig’s family, friends and fans, reads the Korean company’s press release. Breen was the WRC Super 2000 World Champion, taking victories at the Monte Carlo Rally, Rally Wales, Rally de France and Rally Spain. Breen was also the WRC Academy champion in 2011, winning his first event at the 2011 Rally Germany. It should be remembered that in June 2012, co-driver Gareth Roberts was the victim of an accident during the Targa Florio Rally, fifth round of the 2012 Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
