The strike called by the petrol stations for 25 and 26 January it is “at the moment frozen, albeit with the reserve for its suspension according to the examination of the text of the decree once it has been issued”. This is what the union representatives of Faib, Fegica, Figisc/Anisa say at the end of the meeting with the government which was held this morning at Palazzo Chigi. A dialogue was opened with undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano and ministers Adolfo Urso and Giancarlo Giorgetti. And a new meeting before the strike to assess whether there are conditions to cancel the interruption of plant activities is not excluded.

However, a first result has been achieved and the category does not hide its satisfaction. “Appreciated the clarification with the government which restores an unequivocal truth: the managers have no responsibility for the increase in prices, nor for any alleged speculation that has been mentioned”. In short, the comparison begins now and the issues to be resolved are not trivial. Meanwhile, the obligations introduced by the new decree, which yesterday was modified with the introduction of mobile excise duty. At the moment, however, the system that tightens sanctions and controls remains confirmed, together with the obligation to display an average national price in each system close to the prices charged. This last procedure is not only useless but also potentially harmful according to the gas station attendants because it can cause confusion among motorists.

Then there are the structural problems of the sector, which today the trade unions have brought to the attention of Palazzo Chigi. “The managers’ organizations make themselves available to address the issues on the table and to identify instruments, including regulatory ones, useful for dealing with both the contingency and above all the perspective”.

“There are a series of problems afflicting the grid starting from its restructuring”, Bruno Bearzi, the president of Figisc explained to this newspaper: “There are around 22,000 plants, twice as many as in other countries with the same number of inhabitants and we have an often obsolete network with very low payments. We ask that concrete action be taken to counter the illegality that exists in this sector. These are not problems born today but the situation is quite emergency and the basis association is very angry”.

The revocation of the strike called for the end of the month will also depend on the commitment that the government will show on these issues.
