Inflation bites and also Poste Italiane adjusts the tariffs of the services, applying – with the authorization of Agcom – a series of price increases starting from Monday 24 July. The Authority has approved a resolution dated June 27 which formalizes the go-ahead, considered the opportunity to allow Poste Italiane to recover from the inflation recorded in the second half of 2022 and in the first half of 2023, in order to pursue the correspondence of the universal service tariffs with the underlying production costs.

The new prices

Sending by ordinary mail within Italy (20 grams) will cost 1.25 euros instead of 1.20 euros, while with priority mail, for the whole country (100 grams) the cost of the stamp rises from 2.80 to 2.90 euros. The weight and format brackets also vary: for items weighing up to 20 grams the cost will go up by 20 cents, from 5.60 to 5.80 euros, and the same goes for legal registered mail and your registered mail (Retail). To ship an ordinary parcel in Italy from 0 to 3 kg of standard format the rate will increase by 50 cents, from 9.40 to 9.90 euros, while for sending it abroad the increase varies according to the country of destination: zone 1 up to 1 kg from 24 to 24.80 euros. In case of online pre-acceptance: zone 1 up to 1 kg from 23 to 23.80 euros.

Traffic Laws

The postal costs of notification of penalties to the Highway Code will also increase. The Asaps (association of supporters and friends of the traffic police) highlights that all weight ranges will undergo changes: the total amount due for items accepted in post offices up to 20 grams will vary from 10.85 to 11.45 euros, while for items accepted in business centres, used by the traffic police bodies, it will vary from 10.45 to 11.05 euros. It goes like this – it illustrates – from 9.50 euros in June 2022 (already increased by 7%) to 11.05 euros in 13 months, with a stratospheric increase of 16.3%, which exceeds the inflation threshold. To give an example, a 42-euro report for a parking ban will have an increase of 11.05 euros in postage only, in addition to procedural costs that vary according to the police body that notifies it, from 3 to 20 euros for some local police commands. If, on the other hand, you are caught driving using your mobile phone, you will be fined 165 euros but you will pay 190-195.
