Saturday 20 May digitally and Sunday 21 on newsstands the new issue of the supplement and the one dedicated to the youngest: maps, stories, games, advice

Every place, a discovery. It is an invitation to travel, real or imagined, the spirit that animates the new release of “Reading for girls and boys” Saturday 20 May preview in the App and Sunday 21 on newsstands with the new issue of the «mother» insert, #599. Accomplished in collaboration with Book on a Tree by Pierdomenico Baccalario, the «Letturina» is in its fifth issue (the cadence is periodic) and this time it looks to the summer, as always dedicating its pages to junior readers (young and very young) and to parents, teachers, educators or anyone who supports the little ones in the ‘find your way through books and comics (and video games, graphic novels, poetry…).

On the eve of the summer holidays, the natural dimension is that of travel and exploration: so what, on the “Letturina” here are maps of real or fantastic places (you can also travel with your imagination, by reading) or those who, halfway between the two worlds, open doors to the imaginary. And then itineraries of places mentioned and revisited in films, songs, poets’ verses, video games. Travel is the one in nature (what does a real polar explorer say? How do you deal with wild animals, and are all the things you say about them true?), in the clouds, in space, underground.

In the center, a puzzle insert. At the opening, the cover that comes from a brilliant pair of brothers: the artist Rinald Meta, who made it, and Ermal, singer and novelist, who, inspired by the drawing, wrote the sentence shown on the cover. In closing, five author stories make tribute to Alessandro Manzoni in the 150th anniversary of his death (it was May 22, 1873). And the Theme of the Day is also dedicated to Manzoni on Saturday, the digital-only extra of the App, in which Ida Bozzi delves into the topic Betrothed explained to the children.

In addition to the Theme of the Day and the most recent number of the preview insert already on Saturday (e this Saturday 20 the preview is double, as there are two supplements), the «la Lettura» App for smartphones and tablets (downloadable from the App Store and Google Play) offers subscribers the weekly newsletter and access to the archive of all issues since 2011. Subscribe
to the App it costs €3.99 a month or €39.99 a year, with one week free. The subscription can also be subscribed from the desktop starting from this page. For subscribers, the contents are also visible from PCs and Macs starting from their Profile page. Furthermore, a one-year subscription to the App can be given as a gift via the web from here or by purchasing a Gift Card in Librerie.coop.

And «the Reading» of the «grown-ups»? Issue #599 opens up on the writer’s disputed legacy Jorge Luis Borges and on that found by the philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel with texts by Vanni Santoni and Francesco Di Frischia. Among the voices it hosts, those of Amitav Goshinterviewed by Adriano Favole, and by the Greek mystery writer Petros Markaris, who tells Helmut Failoni about his commissioner Charitos which becomes a TV series. Seven special pages are dedicated to 10 years of Black Lives Matter with Marco Bruna’s interview with Robert Samuels and Toluse Olorunnipa, Pulitzer Prize-winning authors for the book on the George Floyd case, and that of Alessia Rastelli at the Nobel Abdulrazak Gurnah.

And again, Stefano Montefiori leads the conversation between Andrea Marcolongo, who spent a night in the Acropolis museum under what remains of the Parthenon friezes, e Sylvain Tesson that it was on the trail of Lord Byron that he denounced the spoliation of those marbles. There is science, with Telmo Pievani and Giuseppe Remuzzi that tell the «baroque» DNA, the art with the interview of Stefano Bucci a Fabrice Hyber which talks about his glass forest project set up at the Espace Louis Vuitton in Venice, music with Luciano Berio remembered twenty years after his death by Nicola Campogrande. And much more.
