The motionless dance of Schlein, Nardella and Bonaccini: in the Democratic Party there are names, but not the comparison

De Benedetti said that the Democratic Party is a dead body. Andrew Orlandotoday on the Tomorrow, he reiterated, adding the concern of the leader: “The party’s problem at the moment is not the difference of ideas, but the silence of ideas”. Come on Elly Schlein frowns: not because the former vice president of Emilia-Romagna is not part of the dem, but because this opening towards the outside “is not producing a discussion”. And so, in the uncertainty, they move candidates for the secretariat of the Pd, at least those in the spotlight. They appear as on a stage under a bull’s eye: on stage, but static. Because they exist, but the comparison is lacking. So here they are Stefano Bonaccini and Dario Nardella who think about the future of the Democratic Party and its current poisons, but who, punctually, to the question: “Will you run?” they pull their hand back. Bonaccini did it when asked by the director of the SheetClaudio Cerasa. Nardella did it, flaunting national initiatives, such as IdeaPd (which on February 27 will bring the debate for “a new democratic community” to the streets in Rome), without, however, making any reservations about his candidacy.

And also Schleinwhich today on Republic moved by declaiming his political manifesto, he answered the fateful question as follows: “The great changes do not move on the shoulders of individual trajectories but of collective mobilisations”. Who is waiting for Elly Schlein? In his programme, but also in that of the mayor of Florence and in Orlando’s words, everything converges on three concepts: “The left has failed to anticipate the great transformations that are frightening society. The increase in inequality, the effects on work of technological innovations, the climate emergency that puts the planet at risk”, he says in the interview. And so ecology and socialism are the watchwords of the more radical wing of the Democratic Party. That of Orlando, but also that of Provenzano, who yesterday told Il Foglio that he was ready, ready to go to the congress, not to dilute it.

Like Orlando – who comments: “Today the question is to save the Democratic Party”, even before forming a government party -, Dario Nardella is also moving on the same wavelength and in the hasty race towards the primaries, he declared on Tomorrow that “we need to clarify”: “If saying ‘let’s hurry’ sanctions our structural inability to carry out a real constituent process, then yes, let’s also hurry. But we will elect yet another secretary to be given a blank proxy to lead a party that remains the same as always“. In this therefore the reformist area of ​​Nardella seems to converge with that further to the left. Yet not even the Tuscan mayor is unbuttoning himself, neither on his candidacy nor on a possible ticket with Elly Schlein. Also because, he says: “I respect you as much as I respect Stephen Bonaccini”.

The three candidates therefore remain stationary in place, waiting for 19 February – the most accredited date for the primaries – and without proceeding. They are quoted, they refer to each other, it seems obvious that they are in the running, but nothing is announced and therefore nothing exists. Only those “others”, the first to be exposed – from Matthew Ricci to Paula DeMicheliformer Minister of Transport – are already campaigning and exploring the peninsula from end to end in a tour that appears very distant from the Nazarene, trapped in the unsaid.
