The majority goes under in the Commission, the government’s suspicions about Lotito and Damiani: “It was a signal”

ROME. The majority goes down in the Budget Committee in the Senate and fails to approve the 12 amendments presented by the rapporteur of the measure, Paola Mancini, of the Brothers of Italy. The tie, with 10 votes to 10, stems from the absence of both Forza Italia senators in the commission, Claudio Lotito and Dario Damiani.

The suspicion, among the benches of the government, is that the two votes of the force supporters are not missed by chance. Lotito is in fact leading a battle, even within the blue party itself, to be appointed rapporteur of the bill on television rights. So far it has done so with amendments, with the aim of also including the world of football in the anti-piracy decree, but ending up infuriating even the leader in pectore of Forza Italia, Antonio Tajani, who would like to approve the measure in the name of the government as it is, to avoid having it returned to consideration by the House, which has already approved it. Thus, the absence in the commission is read by many majority colleagues as yet another signal sent by Lotito.

He defends himself from the accusations: «I am the one with the most appearances ever. I’ve never missed a commission since I was elected, I’ve never been late – says the blue senator -. I’m the first in the Senate and I’m the last out. I practically close the Palazzo Madama». But this time it failed. And this defense charges his absence of suspicion.

Furthermore, the senators of Italia Viva did not come to the aid of the majority, as they sometimes do by abstaining. And here too, explains a member of the majority, another signal arrives from Matteo Renzi to Giorgia Meloni: «He knew that we didn’t have the numbers in the commission and he makes us weigh the lack of his votes – explains a senator from Italy with a mischievous smile. Fdi -, as if to tell us that its entry into the majority would be precious to avoid certain embarrassments, but Giorgia does not fall for it. Of course, Forza Italia will have to find a new internal balance soon, otherwise it will get tough … ».

Meanwhile, the oppositions are attacking: “This executive is not standing, it is incapable of passing from propaganda to facts”, attacks the secretary of the Pd Elly Schlein. And the group leader of the M5S Stefano Patuanelli also goes down hard: «On their symbolic provision, the Precariato decree (which they call the Work decree), the majority goes under. The comatose state continues.”
