The majority defends Santanchè, opposition divided on the request for resignation

“I have not received any notice of guarantee”, says the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanche in the Senate during the briefing to account for the journalistic investigations that have brought to light the alleged irregularities in his companies. The debate in the Chamber highlights the different positions of the oppositions. The 5 Star Movement asks for no confidence while the Democratic Party stalls: “We will be consistent with what we said today, if and when a motion of no confidence against the minister arrives, we will vote for it”, he says Antonio Misiani of the Pd.

The government majority, on the other hand, closes in a square around the minister. “I believe that if the parties were reversed, the left would not have presented itself in Parliament for an investigation of some kind”, she tells reporters Claudio Borghi of the League. “Everything is in order”, comments the Foreign Minister of Forza Italia Antonio Tajani, who when asked whether Santanché should take a step to one side replies: “In a liberal democracy, one is guilty when convicted in the third degree. In communist regimes there is suspicion, in liberal regimes one is innocent as long as is not convicted in the third degree”.
