Berlusconi died of his disease, leukemia: his lungs were clean, and the kidney crisis that had so worried him during his penultimate hospitalization had returned. An acute event occurred during the night: just before 6 it was understood that the former prime minister would not have made it

The work, until the last hours: on delicate dossiers such as the war in Ukraineand the reorganization of Come on Italy. And football, the passion of a lifetime: still Saturday night, he had seen the Champions League final between Inter Milan and Manchester City.

Then, a few hours ago, the collapse, sudden. Until his death, which occurred at 9:30 in the morning today, Monday 12 June.

The clinical situation of Silvio Berlusconi crashed in the night between Sunday and Monday: your personal doctor’s car — Alberto Zangrillo — crossed the gates of the San Raffaele around 4 in the morning. And already just before 6 it was understood that this time – unlike all the others, in the past – the former prime minister would not have made it. Much that the children just had time to arrive to greet him.

Until the end – as revealed by the nurses and those who assisted him – the leader of Forza Italia dedicated himself to work: the internal reorganization of his party, the obsession – as those who stood by him define it – for the situation in Ukraine and the fear that the war could escalate into a nuclear confrontation.

Berlusconi – still says those who assisted him up to the last moments – he feared death: but he didn’t expect it, not now.

To cause the death it wasn’t the pneumonia — the last CT scans revealed finally clean lungs after the inflammation of the last few weeks — n renal failure, which had so worried during the penultimate hospitalization. Berlusconi died of leukemia from which he suffered: and died, after all, in a very similar way to two of his very dear friends, Ennio Doris and Niccol Ghedini.

The leukemia that caused the death of the former prime minister had arisen – in the chronic phase – in December 2021; a long hospitalization followed, at San Raffaele; then came some acute episodes – the 45-day hospitalization in recent weeks – and that of Friday.

In fact, as of April 5, Berlusconi’s clinical situation was already critical, because the marrow no longer worked. On admission to the hospital that day, the exams were completely wrong, and for at least 10 days he feared for his life.

By May, the nightmare seemed over. Berlusconi himself had said: I made it this time too, the nightmare is over.

When Friday returned to the hospital, it was not expected that it could be the last hospitalization.

But the flare-up of leukemia – with the values of platelets and white blood cells out of control – And the acute event that occurred during the night they broke the thread by which everyone knew that Berlusconi’s life was now hanging.
