The governors of the Carroccio push for autonomy, Meloni: “No one behind”

Yes to autonomy, but “in a broader framework of reforms to strengthen and modernize the state structure”, because such a reform “will never be a pretext for leaving part of the territory behind”. The President of the Council Giorgia Melonileader of a party with a strong centralist imprint, speaks as a guest of “Italia delle Regioni”, organized by the Conference of the Regions at Palazzo Lombardia (today is the second day scheduled at the Villa Reale in Monza, with Sergio Mattarella). Meloni tells the audience that «we want to ensure national cohesion and unity. The greater autonomy that each region will be able to request in the ambit of the subjects envisaged by the Constitution will be aimed at carrying out the necessary reforms and infrastructures».

The opening of the governors

In the room are the presidents of the Northern and Southern Regions, those historically more attentive to federalist and autonomist reasons such as Luca Zaia and Massimiliano Fedrigathose instead much colder like Michele Emiliano and Vincenzo De Luca, who in any case eventually opened up to the hypothesis, “autonomy can help Italy to find levels of efficiency and levels of legitimacy in the institutions”. With the green tie required by the Northern League, the Minister for Regional Affairs Robert Calderoli he tries to reassure everyone, «I have never had so many meetings with the representatives of the territories as since I took on this role». Meloni’s reassurances seem to have worked for now, see for example the Sicilian president Renato Schifani, “satisfied with the words offered by the Prime Minister regarding the perimeter in which the executive will move, reflections that pick up on the alarm raised by the regions of south”.
Another guarantee for the rioters, the one offered by Antonio TajaniMinister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister: «To guarantee the principle of subsidiarity, we have decided to set up a working group made up of ministers to collect all the Lep (essential performance levels, ed), which are then the necessary tool to achieve an equal autonomy.

Fedriga: “Regions excluded from the Pnrr”

A further topic that resonated in the various interventions is the Pnrr. On this Fedriga, leader of the governors who succeeded Stefano Bonaccini in this role, was clear in his initial speech. The Regions, he explained, were excluded in the definition of the projects, accusing the Conte bis government in this sense more than anything else: «One cannot think of building large-area policies by skipping the regional system because there is a risk that the system will short-circuit not only on the ability to field the works, but also that there is equal opportunity throughout the territory of the regions». Also on this Meloni has tried to give guarantees, announcing a short call for the Regions to Palazzo Chigi with the recovery and resilience plan on the agenda.
