The government has decided: for Arnaldo Forlani a state funeral and national mourning

Also for Arnaldo Forlani a state funeral will be scheduled. As already happened recently for the funeral of Silvio Berlusconi, the presidency of the Council of Ministers has established that the state funeral will be celebrated on 10 July in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome for the former premier and leading exponent of the DC and the First Republic who died yesterday at the age of 97 and there will be national mourning. “Following the disappearance of the former President of the Council of Ministers, Arnaldo Forlani”, reads the statement from Palazzo Chigi, from 8 to 10 July “national and European flags will be displayed at half-mast on public buildings throughout the territory and on the headquarters of the Italian diplomatic and consular missions abroad”.

State funerals are automatically provided for anyone who has held the office of Prime Minister. For this reason Berlusconi’s funeral was held in the Milan Cathedral in the presence of the President of the Republic and the highest offices of state. National mourning, on the other hand, is established by the government, which can choose whether to announce it or not. Which is why, in the case of Berlusconi’s funeral, the choice of executive was accompanied by controversy. Protests that, however, in the case of Forlani do not register.
