The go-ahead from the Fontana council arrives to name the Belvedere of Palazzo Lombardia after Berlusconi

The Belvedere of Palazzo Lombardia could be dedicated to Silvio Berlusconi. The proposal was put forward by the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, during the council meeting which took place this morning and the idea was accepted by the executive. Now the governor will make a final pass with the family of the former prime minister, reporting the will expressed today with the favorable opinion of the Lombard government team.

Already in recent days Fontana had anticipated the possibility of dedicating “an important place” to the former president of Forza Italia and the 39th floor of Palazzo Lombardia, the highest point of the tower which is now part of the Milanese skyline, was an important space remained without any official title (the auditorium is in fact dedicated to the man of culture, Giovanni Testori, while the largest room in the building is dedicated to Marco Biagi). There was no lack of criticism of this eventuality, first and foremost that of the leader of the Democratic Party in the regional council, Pierfrancesco Majorino: «I am not convinced by the idea of ​​naming a space that represents the whole institution after a partisan political protagonist who among the ‘other has had nothing directly to do with this institution – he declared yesterday in a note – I am much more convinced by the idea that similar places are named after personalities that unite».

Meanwhile, the session in which the former prime minister will be officially remembered is expected tomorrow in the Lombardy regional council chamber. In fact, the opening of the works will be the commemoration of Silvio Berlusconi, as was agreed at the last Conference of the Presidents of the council groups, which had accepted last Tuesday’s request to postpone the council made by the Forza Italia group leader Fabrizio Figini as a sign of respect and institutional condolences for the disappearance of the former prime minister. The hypotheses of possible places dedicated to Berlusconi continue. Among these in Lombardy, there was talk for example of Linate or Malpensa airport. The mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala, had cooled down the enthusiasm on the long wave of emotion after the state funeral on June 14th at the Duomo, who, regarding the naming of a street or a square in the Lombard capital, had specified: «I like to respect the rules and only ten years after his death can a route be dedicated».
