The associated companies of Acciaierie d’Italia (the former Ilva) leave Confindustria. The “secession” had been in the air for days and now it’s official: 51 companies, which had left Confindustria Taranto, found themselves as founding members of the Association of associated steelworks of Italy and large industries, representing around 3,500 employees. The president of the association is Fabio Greco, vice Nicola Convertino.

The reasons for the separation

Why the “secession” from Confindustria? The founders of the new association thus explain their farewell to the Industrial Association of Taranto: «To the bodies of the metalworking sector of the local Confindustria the adequate exercise of the role of representation in defense of the interests of its members has been constantly hindered, causing the growing need to be able to rely on an association specialized in particular and extremely complex issues deriving from relations between national and international industrial realities and the many companies that make up their local induced. This association, therefore, being an entity exclusively dedicated to the ion related industries, will be able to adequately manage the complex local and national events that concern the Taranto iron and steel plant and the other large industries». «No tearing» they say in reference to Confindustria Taranto, but «aware, natural and progressive maturation of an entire industrial sector».

Induced requests

As for the objectives, the newly formed induced industries request «immediately investments for the protection of the environment, the release of the orders, in order to allow investments and maintenance, the stability of all the workers of the related enterprises, these are the objectives to which we aim. We are already at work, in fact, we will ask to meet the governance of the plant, as well as the Ionian parliamentarians, the Municipality, the Province of Taranto and the Puglia Region ».
