The expected contact between Schlein and Bonaccini, with an eye to group leaders and secretariat

Darkness in the morning, fog in the early afternoon, then the clear sky comes in whispers: “They heard”. The protagonists of the phone call, eagerly awaited by parliamentarians and PD executives, are the governor of Emilia Romagna and president dem Stefano Bonaccini and the new secretary Elly Schlein. The contact takes place after several days of silence, a silence that had fueled doubts on both sides of the new Pd: do Schlein and Bonaccini really intend to make the party grow under the banner of unity? “Unity depends on how you achieve it,” said a puzzled Bonaccinian yesterday morning. And in fact – upstream of the phone call in which “finally”, to quote both Bonaccinian and Schleinian doves, “we have at least come to put on the agenda” the no longer postponeable question of group leaders and the secretariat – the voices already mountains of speculation had become rampant over the weekend and in the early hours of Monday: “The longer they talk, the clearer it is that Schlein wants both group leaders close to her,” said a minority deputy. “Elly is taking the necessary time to make the right choices”, predicted instead a deputy from the majority, while there were those who tried to grasp the signs and symbols in the repeated vision, last week, in the Chamber, of a Debora Serracchiani, group leader present, intent on confabulating with Chiara Braga, a hyper-Schleinian deputy considered a candidate for the office now held by Serracchiani — in case the secretary does not want to implement unity to the point of leaving things as they are in the Chamber, where she already sits herself as a deputy (this was the fear of a part of the Bonaccinians, which by evening had almost become a certainty).
