We need a new asylum policy to overcome old rules that are now prehistoric: said the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella speaking from Warsaw after an interview with Polish President Andrzej Duda.

The head of state specified: “There are destabilizing pressures and initiatives in Africa. What is happening in these hours in Sudan is alarming, Wagner’s action in many African countries raises a great alarm from NATO and the EU and requires an active and leading action by the EU that is strongly committed on these fronts”.

Mattarella also spoke on the conflict in Ukraine. “Last year there was the historic decision” to give the candidacy for EU membership to Ukraine and Moldova, “a historically important choice, which must be cultivated until it is actually implemented”. We are horrified by some inhuman behavior which are used in the war by the Russian armed forces, hitting civilian targets and infrastructure, hitting civilian homes, in a way that makes the aggression even more cruel.
