Last Saturday the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (Mase) has opened a public consultation on the update of the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (Pniec). This is the first step in adapting the plan, dating back to December 2019, to the new objectives of the European “Fit for 55” package, which raises the cut in emissions expected by 2030 from 40 to 55 percent. , in principle, a commendable initiative, but it also illustrates why European environmental policy (and its Italian implementation) risks proving to be very complex. The reason is simple: the times. 55 percent was launched by the Commission in 2020. It was only formally approved at the end of last year.
