The third meeting of the institutional table at Palazzo Chigi. They try to run to make up for the delays but Gualtieri is convinced: “Holy year and Pnrr will change the city”

“With Giubileo and Pnrr, Rome is about to turn into a large building site, it’s a huge opportunity”. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri he repeats it like a mantra or, to be mean, like an operation of self-convincing, of autogenic training. Indeed, there is no shortage of resources to make a change: 1.2 billion of jubilee funds (with interventions for almost three) and another billion for the Pnrr (of which 500 million from the Caput Mundi to be completed for the Jubilee with over 200 interventions in archaeological and cultural sites). But the difficulty now is spending. On Tuesday evening, the mayor was at Palazzo Chigi in his capacity as extraordinary government commissioner for the holy year for the third joint meeting of the table chaired by the Undersecretary to the Prime Minister Alfredo Mantovano. A meeting focused on three points: the new 97 interventions approved with a Dpcm on 8 June and stamped a few days later by the Court of Auditorsa survey on the state of implementation of the first 87 works “essential and indifferent” (the total number of interventions therefore rose to 184) and the work of nine new thematic coordinators who will have to manage the organizational part (on security, transport, logistics, etc.). In the meantime, it has also been announced that studies on traffic flows and expected tourist flows are underway.

On the new 97 interventions Gulatieri informed that the meeting with all the implementing bodies was held on 23 June – and therefore the Giubileo 2025 company, the Campidoglio, the Lazio Region, Rfi, Anas, Atac, Adr, the universities and all those institutions and companies that deal with some works internally or partially within the complex multilevel governance with its si hopes to put money on the ground – to establish i schedules interventions and start working. The main interventions include the two new stops on the Rome-Lido (at Torrino and at Giardino di Roma), the redevelopment of metro A stations (over 65 million), 6.5 million for the removal of “stumps” and planting of new trees, the redevelopment of historic villas, various interventions on the Tiber including the reconstruction of the quays and walls as well as the construction of various parks overlooking it and one million euros for a jubilee work in each of the 15 municipalities of the capital.

As for the works that had already been included in the first Dpcm of December, however, a survey was carried out. The construction site (70 million) of the ship should start in July underpass of Piazza Pia which will effectively pedestrianize the area between via della Conciliazione and Castel Sant’Angelo. Always in July the redevelopment works should also start in Piazza dei Cinquecento and on the Iron bridge, all yards should close on the woolen thread, in December 2024, just in time for the opening of the holy year. Extraordinary maintenance work on the main road network should also begin in July (47 million euros). The tender for the sidewalks is more delayed: the envelopes are being opened. While in October, work will begin on the pavement of the Lungotevere and bridges (14 million) and the redevelopment of the market in Piazza dell’Unità in Prati. However, the reconstruction of the square in front of the basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano was delayed: the works must be completed by December 2024 but everything is still at a standstill in the feasibility study. For the replacement of cobblestones in various streets and squares in the center there are several tenders, all quite behind, with the exception of the one for work near the jubilee churches. The construction sites there should open in the autumn. Also for the redevelopment of the paths we stopped at the initial site inspections. While the redevelopment works of the lighting of the Gra junctions (6 million) will start between July and October. For the redevelopment of Calatrava’s sails at Tor Vergata (70 million), publication of the tender for the integrated contract is expected in July.
