The general secretaries of Cgil, Cisl, Uil and Ugl – according to what is learned – were summoned to Palazzo Chigi on Tuesday 30 May to “set up the work” on institutional reforms, fiscal delegation, inflation, pensions, safety at work and productivity. The meeting will be followed by the launch or continuation of specific tables with the ministries concerned. The appointment with Maurizio Landini, Luigi Sbarra, Pierpaolo Bombardieri and Paolo Capone (Cgil, Cisl, Uil and Ugl) is set for 3.45 pm, in the Sala Verde of Palazzo Chigi. After the meeting, specific tables will follow with the ministries concerned.

The meeting with the unions will take place after the government majority has presented, on May 26, all the amendments (the deadline is set for Friday May 26) to the tax reform bill presented by the government. Meanwhile, the Bank of Italy has rejected one of the pillars of the reform, strongly felt by the government coalition, or the Flat tax. According to the central bank, the single rate is not realistic in countries with strong welfare states. Furthermore, the reform does not indicate the coverage necessary to reduce taxes. On the legislature’s goal of a flat tax for all, the prime minister will receive the same criticisms also from the trade unions during the meeting.
