The newly formed association «Indotto Acciaierie d’Italia and Grandi Industrie» celebrated its first public appearance on 28 January. It has 56 companies, of which 46 former members of Confindustria Taranto and 10 never registered with any organization. The new organization, which has also joined two consortia of transporters for a total of thirty companies operating in various sectors, employs a total of 3,500 workers belonging to an industry segment that boasts credits of 80 million.

The Greek president

Fabio Greco, president of the association, summarizes in the need for “the protection of our interests, no longer protected by Confindustria which is a pyramid structure” the reason for the exit and the creation of this new organization which has Nicola Convertino as vice president and a council general of 14 members. The assembly was attended by the majority MPs Dario Iaia and Giovanni Maiorano (FdI) and Vito De Palma (FI).

The decree law

At the center of the debate is article 2 of the decree law on plants considered strategic, which these entrepreneurs are asking for suppression or modification. This is the article on the basis of which the extraordinary administration of the company – in this case Acciaierie d’Italia – can take place «at the request of the public shareholder who holds at least 30 per cent of the company shares, when the shareholder himself has reported to the administrative body the recurrence of the requisites”. Invitalia, owner of 38 percent of AdI, can therefore do so if the conditions are met.

The fear of companies

In singular harmony with the secessionist companies also the CEO Lucia Morselli, does not approve of it especially after having asked the opinion of the constitutionalist Sabino Cassese. What is fear? The new president Fabio Greco explains it: «Our fear is that of going back to 2015 which remains an indelible moment for companies in the Taranto related industries when all credits were frozen for a total of 150 million. Falling back to 2015 makes us worry and we are preparing an amendment, we want to bring it to the Senate and we have asked for a meeting». “We are ready for anything – concludes Greco – even for collective redundancies or class action”.
