More than those reported by the whole of Piedmont and Milan combined. Lecce second in the regional ranking, Bari is third

With 1,282 reports of occupational diseases in the first nine months of the year (1,068 in the same period of 2021), Taranto leads the regional ranking. But these numbers make it an absolute champion because they are almost the ones collected by the whole of Piedmont (964) and Milan (383) added together. This issue was discussed on Saturday in Taranto thanks to the initiative of the Agi (Italian labor law association) whose national president, Tatiana Biagioni, underlined that “this city is the right place to discuss it and to promote safety and prevention on workplaces”.

Healthy workplaces

The argument – important in a city whose industrial vocation starts from the historic presence of shipyards to arrive at the current steel and oil industry – emphasized the need to have healthy and safe workplaces both for workers and for the same employers. In this way the employee, safe from accidents, works better and is more productive.

Lecce second, Bari third in the ranking

The data on occupational diseases provided by Inail-Anmil outline this picture. Taranto is confirmed, after last year, also in 2022 at the head of the regional ranking against the overall figure of 3,547 complaints, an increase of 16.4 percent compared to 2021 (3,047 cases reported). In Lecce there are 910 complaints, an increase of 38%, in Bari 552 compared to 490 last year, Brindisi instead decreases with 412 compared to the previous 442. Widening the field from occupational diseases to total accidents reported in Taranto, there is same growth. There are 3,044 in 2022 against 2,497 in 2021. Deaths at work are decreasing, albeit slightly: from 10 (2021) to 8 (2022). An unacceptable fact anyway.
