The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs: «We need to guarantee a change in this region. I’m also convinced that it wouldn’t be easy for him to win again.”

Of Patrick Mannu

Red disc from Antonio Tajani to a possible third term of Vincent deLuca. «He has governed this region with less than positive results. I respect everyone, but I don’t think it’s right to continue guaranteeing this region without the possibility of change, that is, it doesn’t seem to me a way to perpetuate such a situation», commented the deputy prime minister, as well as minister for foreign affairs on a possible third ” of the governor of Campania. «Even if I am convinced – he predicted – that it won’t be easy, should he have a third mandate, for De Luca to win the next regional ones. We see it from what is around Campania. I don’t think it is right to insist on a third term».

Campania crucial hub

Antonio Tajani yesterday in Sarno (Salerno) where he attended the inauguration of the Forza Italia headquarters. «Campania is a region on which we focus a lot. I – she added – had the honor of being the leader in the general elections throughout the region and this means, for me too, having a commitment to a constant presence in the Campania region. Forza Italia is taking root even more in the area here, the same thing happening throughout Italy. We are a major force in government. We make a fundamental contribution to solving citizens’ problems, but to solve problems we then need to listen to citizens and every branch we inaugurate must be a place for listening and for discussion”.

Expensive-gasoline

Beyond the third term, the deputy premier could not fail to dwell on one of the hot topics of these days and which sees the government at the center of furious controversy, even among his own constituents: the high price of petrol. “As a government we want to solve the citizens’ problems. The economic situation is not easy. With the manoeuvre, we have tried to give concrete answers above all to retirees and the socially weaker groups, but also to families and businesses. We are also working to try to alleviate the burden of the cost of petrol, identifying the best solutions. For Tajani the choices made by the government «aimed and aim at helping those who most need to be supported. However, we will go on. We are also making a strong effort to address the issue of immigration and economic growth”.

differentiated autonomy

A mention should also be made of the ongoing discussion on differentiated autonomy. On Friday, De Luca announced a battle if “the old question of historical spending” were to be re-proposed, stating “that if we carry on like this, autonomy will die before it is even born”. And yesterday from Sarno Tajani returned the warning to the sender, trying to tone it down. “We will work – he said reassuringly – also so that differentiated autonomy is not an autonomy that penalizes the South. Italy must not be divided. We must make the Lep, we must also think of an equalization fund. We are working to ensure that it is a balanced reform that benefits both the North and the South, but also the Centre, which is why we will have to work on the powers of Rome Capital”.

Migrants

Finally, a passage on the immigrant issue. «I was the day before yesterday in Turkey, I will be next week in Tunisia and probably in Egypt to locate a strategy that allows Italy to make agreements with key countries, from where migrants leave or which can block the migratory flow. Without agreements with these countries it is difficult to find a solution. Egypt and Turkey are two large countries which guarantee the stability of the entire area. Then, Tunisia is a country where they start. All of this – Tajani explained on the sidelines – must be aimed at finding a solution for Libya, where we need to go and vote and have a stable government. But, also by working with Egypt and Turkey, one can contribute to the stability of this country”. Tajani then underlined that «Italy wants to play a leading role because if the Libyan question is resolved and Tunisia works well, the migration problem will also be resolved. It is not an easy problem to solve because there are so many reasons that push these people to leave». For the exponent of Forza Italia it is necessary «to work in the long term also to solve the root of the problem. This means promoting the growth of the African continent, fighting climate change, fighting poverty, disease, wars and terrorism. It is a short, medium and long-term strategy to which the government is strongly committed. We have clear ideas and we are working hard».
