Tabacci in the seventh legislature: responsible opposition but no flat tax

Bruno Tabacci, born in 1946, president of the Democratic Center and protagonist with Luigi Di Maio of the unfortunate political project “Together for the Future” (quorum not reached) was nevertheless elected as a single member of the Chamber and is in his seventh legislature.

Mrs Tabacci, as a veteran of the parliamentary halls, what do you expect from this legislature, the first in reduced ranks?

It will be necessary to enable 400 deputies to make them work as they did with 630, also at the level of services, to guarantee the quality of the legislative offer. It will not be easy. Furthermore, there will be less pluralism. And the level of representation of the territories is also compromised.

In your opinion, will the center-right led by Meloni be able to face the great energy and international political challenges we face?

I hope so. Despite the strong abstention, the center-right had a relative majority and it’s up to them to govern. The ability to do so will depend on relations within the coalition. For Lega and Forza Italia it will not be easy to digest the large overtaking by an ally like the Brothers of Italy who was previously the partner with the fewest votes in the coalition. The international situation is very complex, the issues on the table, starting with the energy one, are of enormous significance. Melons do well to be worried. It won’t be easy to replace Draghi

What kind of opposition should the center-left make in your opinion?

I believe there is a need for a responsible and non-prejudicial opposition. Of course, if the majority thinks of starting with the British government-style flat tax, they would start off on the wrong foot.

Do you think that on Thursday (tomorrow) we will have the presidents of the Chamber and the Senate?

I hope so. As an opposition we have not been questioned. It is up to the majority to find a square and immediately, in the general interest. The legislature must start as soon as possible
