Smart working, short week and public transport
Given that a significant share of emissions are due to transport, it is necessary not only to encourage the diffusion of electricity and the use of public transport but also to reduce the demand for mobility. Precisely for this reason, in the proposal to update the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (Pniec) that the government sent to Brussels, smart working and the short week are mentioned among the solutions designed to reduce emissions. In the transport sector, it will be necessary to encourage more strongly measures aimed at transferring user movements from private to public transport through the modal shift, reduce the need to travel with favorable policies for smart working and evaluate the reduction of working hours for the same number of hours worked, reads the proposal. The final text of the plan will be drawn up on the basis of the Commission’s recommendations, the results of the consultation launched in the context of strategic environmental assessment and once the Regions and Parliament have been heard. The Pniec should be definitively approved by June 2024.
