Renato Schifani’s insistent pressure to get out of the ugly mess of Cannes and the thick clouds that gather over the regional government and the image of Sicily. The President of the Region yesterday once again asked the Tourism Department to send a report and all the documentation relating to the Region’s participation in the next edition of the Cannes International Film Festival, as nothing, to date, despite the urgency , still received by the Presidency, underlined from the offices of Palazzo d’Orleans. A case, that of the 3.7 million photographic exhibition – Sicily, Women and Cinema – on which even the Court of Auditors has turned its lights on and which for the president himself represents a strong damage to the image of our land.

In detail, the governor specified that the required insights they will have to be detailed and also concern all the preliminary activity and, in particular, the assignment activity according to the art. 63 of the Procurement Code (negotiated procedure without prior publication of a call for tenders). With the document sent, Schifani also asked for clarifications on the reasons for the lack of the surety and on the procedure regarding anti-mafia certification, as those deduced in the decree do not appear convincing at present. Furthermore, the report and the required documents must be accompanied by audiovisual documentation relating to the 2022 edition of the event. Offering the support of the general secretariat, of the regional budget and treasury department and of the legislative and legal office, Schifani specified that, as a result of the in-depth analyses, the regional administration will necessarily have to evaluate, among the actions to be undertaken, also those in self-protection , total or partial, including precautionary deeds, even of suspension, in the event that responsibilities of any kind are found that could cause damage, even if only potentially and even only to the image, of the Sicilian Region.
