The two speeches in the Senate retraced two stories of life at the antipodes, but compatible with each other. Both made clear an inclusive spirit and the will to break down ideologies and move ever closer to republican values

The first session of the Senate, dedicated to the election of the president, was characterized by two speeches, that of Liliana Segre and that, after the election, of Ignazio La Russa. There were no overlapping speeches – each one also expressed the personality and personal history of the speakers – but absolutely compatible. The human and political paths of Segre and La Russa could not be more distant, precisely this makes theirs meaningful convergence on a “republican rhetoric” truly appreciable.
