Schlein: “National mourning for Berlusconi is forcing. A mistake to ride his death to carry on reforms”

The day after the funeral of Silvio Berlusconi, Elly Schlein says “no to the beatification” of the leader of Forza Italia, who died last Monday at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan. And he defines the national mourning proclaimed in memory of the Cav “an inopportune forcing”. As the secretary of the Pd explains to SkyTg24: “I never knew him in life. The political commitment of many was born in opposition to Berlusconi. Today in the Nazarene I find myself leading the democratic community. We have respected the funeral. But we do not participate in the beatification of Berlusconi. We remember the ad personam laws, the conflict of interest – comments Schlein – We remember the commodification of everything. We found it an inopportune forcing in asking for three days of national mourning. It is natural that we reserve to people who have united the Republic, characteristics that do not match the political Berlusconi”.
“We need balance” and “there is no more wrong moment than to ride the emotions for Berlusconi’s death and carry out unbalanced reforms”, comments Schlein again, referring to the justice reform which today should be approved in the CDM in Berlusconi’s honour.
From the leader of Forza Italia to the broad agreements on which Schlein “remains against”. Explaining: “Always composite and large majorities have not managed to attack the issues, that path would not see me in agreement”, declared the secretary of the Democratic Party. AND Joseph Conte? “We will meet to coordinate the initiatives that our forces are carrying out. There are the regional ones in Molise on which we have built an alliance. I find it positive that our forces carry on shared battles”, replies Schlein. The goal of the Pd in the next European elections is “to be the first party and therefore overtake the Brothers of Italy”.
In the meantime, however, there is an emergency in Emilia Romagna to deal with. “Today the mayors of Emilia asked the government not to wait any longer to identify a commissioner. I really ask the government to hurry. Reconstruction cannot be politicized”, attacks Schlein.
