Schlein in Emilia Romagna 2 months after the flood: "Refreshments immediately"

Two months after the floods that devastated Romagna, the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, visited some hilly areas hit by landslides, brought the party meeting to Forlì and asked the government to “accelerate with refreshments”, because municipalities are advancing the money to rebuild and “risk default”.

Schlein’s day (who is also a member of parliament of the party he has led since February) began with a meeting together with the mayor of Modigliana, Jader Dardi, mayor of a town that has become a symbol for the many landslides. Together they carried out an inspection where one of these still hangs over the football field, having damaged the structure.

At one o’clock the meeting of the party secretariat began at the Bussecchio club in Forlì, a catering cooperative with billiards and other recreational and social activities. Before starting, the secretary said that «the mayors are no longer willing to act as lightning rods for the discontent that is spreading among the flooded populations and she asked that from Rome “speed up” with the distribution of funds. “The Apennine side has different problems from the areas affected by floods, such as Forlì”, Schlein said again, demanding “different and adequate answers” for each reality.

When asked about the minimum wage, one of the Democratic Party’s dearest issues, Schlein replied that “by presenting an amendment against the minimum wage, the government is not going against the opposition, but against millions of workers. On this, you have promised to fight in parliament. In the afternoon, you will meet other mayors of the flooded areas and it is not excluded that in the evening you will participate in the Cesena Unification party.
