Saviano demonizes the logic of profit, thanks to which we live better and with less poverty

All that the writer patches when he gets angry, without any number, with profit, competition and merit. Nothing of what he complains, and for which he feels “horror”, is confirmed by the data

Roberto Saviano took advantage of the anniversary of May 1st, Labor Day, to declare all his “horror” for profit, competition, merit, precariousness, unemployment, employment, fatigue. “There was a time – he wrote on social media – in which there were political organizations that wanted to bring down work, in which intellectuals sang idleness and laziness as the only conditions of freedom, in which minds believed that technology had only one direction: to free humanity from toil and wage work”. According to the writer, this is no longer the case: “The only destiny is to be overwhelmed by an ever greater and always fatal effort. More work and fewer resources, less time, less life”. Saviano closes the reflection by quoting André Breton who, being the poet of surrealism, perhaps provides the right key to the whole affair.
