The San Donato hospital group (GSD) arrives in Abu Dhabi with a smart clinic, the first that the leader in Italy of accredited private healthcare (85% of treatments is provided in agreement with the national health service) with 1.7 billion of turnover, opens abroad. The starting investment has a value of 5 million and is the cornerstone of a very large internationalization project of the group founded by Giuseppe Rotelli, who passed away on June 28, 2013, and today led by the vice presidents Paolo Rotelli and Kamel Ghribi and chaired by Angelino Alfano. The reality will be managed directly by the Milanese hospital which owns the San Raffaele, the San Donato and the Galeazzi.

The smart clinic in the shopping arcade

It will be built inside a commercial gallery to make the facility more easily accessible to patients. The plans envisage the setting up of a polyclinic for specialist visits, diagnostics, rehabilitation and other services. According to a scheme that has already seen the hospital group sign an agreement in Italy to open Smart clinics with Esselunga as part of a strategy to develop outpatient centers within shopping centres. The project in the Middle East is the result of an agreement with the government fund Investopia, which belongs to the Ministry of Economy of the Emirates. It is also a pillar of the development of the San Donato group which already has a historic partnership network in the Middle East. The spirit of the project was told by Paolo Rotelli to the Economy of Corriere della Sera at the end of 2019: To be competitive in the Middle East it is necessary to provide quality care while respecting the local culture and forging relationships of mutual respect. We want to become the reference partner of healthcare in the Middle East. The overall idea, in fact, is to bring polyclinic centers to the Middle East and then, in the case of more complex treatments, to convey patients to the group’s centers of excellence in Italy.

The project in Dubai

Then there is also another piece in the mosaic laid by the group in the Emirates. In fact, San Donato will build the new American University in the Emirates this time in Dubai, as anticipated by the Only 24 Hours. Expected investment, 120 million euros: the structure will be leased to the private university that will manage it. The new campus built to accommodate 3,000 students. The 56-year-old Tunisian manager Kamel Ghribi, born in Sfax and resident in Lugano for years, played a strategic role in the transaction: global advisor to the family for many years, group vice president alongside Rotelli, as well as president of GSD Middle East for expansion in the Middle East. in fact, the Gksd investment holding, owned by San Donato and Kamel, and which controls an engineering company, is the key to the realization of the Dubai project.
