Roccella closes to the ‘rebel’ mayors: “If they transcribe the birth certificates they do not disobey us but the judiciary”

“There is no comparison to be made. There are laws and a precise sentence. The mayors know what they can and cannot do”. Are they disobedient? “No, it’s something they decide knowing there’s a sentence they don’t apply. There’s no bargaining.” The Minister of the Family Eugenia Rockella thus responding to the letter of some ‘disobedient’ mayors who transcribe the birth certificates of children born to homoparental families.

Mayors are in revolt. They continue to defend the rights of children of gay couples. After the halt to registration in the registry office imposed by the Viminale on the mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala and after the disobedience of so many first citizens from Padua to Prato, from Verona to Treviso and Bologna (where we continue with the transcripts), it is time for mobilisation: a document and a demonstration (“Cities for rights”), the May 12 in Turin.

“They are not protesting against the Piantedosi circular but against the sentence of the Cassation. So, if anything, they should have a dialogue with the president of the joint sections. There is a very precise sentence that says certain things”, the minister specifies again after a meeting on the Trentino model of the family certification of the Municipalities.

And when asked what you think, on a human level, of the mayors’ request to meet the premier Giorgia Meloni for a discussion on the subject, Roccella replies: “On a human level? The mayors meet every day. I have no powers on the matter”.
