Of Giusi Fasano, sent to Udine

At the national meeting of the Alpini, the Prime Minister relaunches the proposal for a “voluntary mini naja” by the president of the Santo Ignazio La Russa

The white pen on Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s hat, the secluded presence of Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and the proposal for a “voluntary mini naja” by Senate President Ignazio La Russa. Details from the 94th national meeting of the Alpini, in Udine. Yesterday was the final day, under an insistent rain that annoyed everyone except them, the 90,000 black feathers too busy parading to bother with their soaked uniforms, healthy bearers of the concept that «we are not soluble in water». The Prime Minister arrives early with Minister Crosetto. At 9 she has already greeted the Alpine groups who are opening the parade and — while he puts on a rain jacket and, as a former Alpine soldier, is moved and entertains himself to shake hands and pose next to them — she lines towards the grandstand accompanied by applause and greetings. The first declaration is to say that «today is Mother’s Day, but we always have another mother who is the homeland, the Alpini who are like family. We couldn’t miss it.”

The generals next to her on stage give her the hat with the white feather: that one as General of the Army Corps, the highest rank. And to those who ask her for a comment on the appeal of the National Alpine Association for the training of reservists, and on the restoration of military service, she replies that «the issue of military service can be tackled as a voluntary hypothesis, an alternative to civil service. That’s the right approach.” The president of the Senate Ignazio La Russa also speaks on the subject, recalling the so-called mini naja which he had approved by the defense minister and explains that “colleagues in the Senate” are working on a bill for a sort of new voluntary mini naja of 40 days. “A law – he says – which allows those who want to participate in the life of the armed forces”, with the aim of “replenishing also the weapon associations, which without conscription are aging until exhaustion” and “allowing many young people who wish to be part of the armed forces and express their desire to honor their homeland”. No word on the subject from Minister Crosetto who, in truth, did not comment on anything except via Twitter, to speak of the “Alpinity” made up of “sense of duty, sacrifice, seriousness, attachment to institutions and friendship”.
