Friday 20 January, by email, the weekly diary of the supplement

The first half of the last century was indelibly marked by the tragedy of the two world wars, culminating in the mass extermination of the Holocaust. The commitment of successive generations to ensure that nothing like this could happen again has been and is still a pillar of European construction. For this reason, in Italy and internationally, it was decided to make January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp, Memorial Day. On Remembrance Day, Reading #582, previewed on the App on Saturday 21 January and on newsstands on Sunday 22, dedicates a large and articulated ten-page dossier.

In the newsletter of the supplement, arriving via email on Friday 19, Antonio Carioti explores the contents of the 10 special pages, starting from the opening dedicated to the film Hometown. The road of memories, by Mateusz Kudla and Anna Kokoszka-Romer (in cinemas from 25 January), which accompanies director Roman Polanski and photographer Ryszard Horowitz, both survivors of the Holocaust, on their return to Krakow. Claudio Magris and Giuseppina Manin write about it in the supplement.

The newsletter reaches the App de la Lettura subscribers who want it or subscribers from here. That of Friday also offers the incipit of one of the books recommended in the supplement for the Day of Remembrance: Escape from the ghetto. The true story of a Jewish boy who escaped the Nazis by John Carr (translation by Salvatore Ser, La nave di Teseo, pp. 384, euro 20, from 24 January). The newsletter also contains advice from the editorial staff on what to read, watch and listen to.

In addition to the newsletter and the most recent issue of the insert, subscribers to the App de la Lettura (downloadable from the App Store and Google Play) have access to the archive of all issues since 2011. And every day they find an extra digital-only insight: the theme of the day.

Subscribe to the Reading App for smartphones and tablets it costs €3.99 a month or €39.99 a year, with one week free. The subscription can also be subscribed from the desktop starting from this page.
