The lunge of the minister: “Even honest entrepreneurs are found violations”

First an opening, almost an outstretched hand: “The reform of justice passes to Parliament and therefore Parliament in its sovereignty will decide how to proceed” after having also asked an opinion to the CSM, assure from via Arenula. Then, in a day punctuated by clarifications and fine-tuning after days of very bitter controversy with the opposition and the Anm against his reform, Charles Nordio in the evening a new chapter opens which risks triggering yet another chain effect. Quite unexpected, given that in the majority his exit had created some embarrassment, despite the fact that the vice premier took the field yesterday to defend him Tajani: «The laws are written by Parliamentthe judges apply them”.

The approach is entrusted to a phrase by Tacitus: “The more corrupt a Republic is, the more laws it produces”. And the current situation in Italy is not that far off according to the Minister of Justice, who spoke at the conference “The penalty system in tax reform” organized at the Milan Luiss Hub by the vice president of Luiss Paula Severino and promoted by the University named after Guido Carli. “The regulatory overlap – explains Nordio – makes procedures complicated and we arrive at a lock that does not open unless it is anointed by corruption”. And here the lunge: «The situation is so paradoxical that if an honest businessman today he decides to hire an army of accountants, telling them: I pay every last penny of taxes but you have to let me sleep peacefully, he wouldn’t be able to because some violation would be found because of contradictory nature of the various rules».

But the criticisms continue. The opposition (although Elly Schlein said she was in favor of the edit of the abuse of office but “not to its abolition”) and also a part of the judiciary consider it not in line with the European directives. «I have already explained in Europe – replies Nordio – that the reform is in line with community expectations because it tends to arreduce litigation and speed up justice: it is useless to invest in personnel if useless processes are not reduced, abuse of office produces 5,000 a year. Speeding up justice makes the objectives of the Pnrr achievable”. «The real vulnerability – he specifies – lies in the mechanism: current standards produce the warranty notice which, by itself, pushes a mayor out of the political landscape. Then maybe acquittal comes, but politics has already found a replacement. There decriminalization it eliminates this collateral damage and it is no coincidence that I receive continuous approval and congratulations from the mayors of the Democratic Party », he assures.

For the rest, Nordio continues to defend his reform – shared by Carlo Calenda and Matteo Renzi -, this time for the part on interceptions, assuring that action will be taken “to fully implement article 15 of the Constitution which affirms the freedom and privacy of conversations. We have now partially intervened to protect the person mentioned in the conversations of others. But later we will also intervene for protect the freedom of the people who speak and must speak to each other in confidentiality of course without compromising the investigations for i big crimes of organized crime”.
