Boom for the new Btp Green placed yesterday by the Treasury, which collected requests for 52.9 billion euros against an issue of 10 billion. The bond, with maturity on 30 October 2031, entitlement on 13 April 2023 and an annual rate of 4%, paid in two half-yearly coupons, was placed at a price of 99.888, corresponding to an annual gross yield on issue of 4.056%. The placement was carried out through a syndicate, made up of five lead managers (Bbva, Bnp Paribas, BofA Securities Europe, Crdit Agricole and Monte dei Paschi di Siena) and the remaining Italian government bond specialists as co-lead managers.

As required by the 2020 Budget Law, the new Btp Green will finance government expenditure deemed sustainable in specific categories. With the aim of intercepting an additional share of investors who otherwise would not invest in Italian government bonds, diversifying the base. These are projects that concern renewable sources for the production of electricity and heat, energy efficiency, transport, the prevention and control of pollution and circular energy, the protection of the environment, biological diversity and research .

The first time of the BTP Green dates back to March 2021, when the Treasury collected requests for a total of over 80 billion. Last September, however, the Mef placed 6 billion with an expiry in April 2035, collecting orders for 40 billion. Auction then reopened in November, for an amount of 2 billion.
