Poste Italiane, the home of digital services in 7,000 offices is born with Polis – Corriere.it

The project to convert post offices in small towns with less than 15,000 inhabitants is underway creating a one-stop shop for access to public administration services. The objectives and characteristics of the project, renamed Polis, were illustrated in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the ministers Adolfo Urso, Alberto Zangrillo, Guido Crosetto, Giancarlo Giorgetti and Daniela Santanch, as well as thousands of mayors and administrators summoned to the Nuvola di Fuksas in Rome for an operation that aims to convert a large part of the Italian postal network.

The entire operation rests on the creation of a one-stop shop within the offices of the group led by Matteo Del Fante proximity for access to public administration services, such as, for example, requests for electronic identity cards, passports, civil status and personal data certificates, new issue of the tax code, self-declarations of loss, declaration of detention and transport of weapons and so on. A garrison which, in Poste Italiane’s intentions, will serve to promote the economic, social and territorial cohesion of small urban centers and inland areas. The provision of the first services is scheduled to begin in the spring in the 40 post offices where the restructuring with the new innovative layout and the new technological and digital infrastructure has already been completed, followed by another 230 construction sites in the coming weeks, while by December the plan envisages interventions on 1500 offices, the completion of the plan established for 2026 with, in fact, the establishment of a garrison that provides public administration services in 7,000 post office offices, involving a catchment area of ​​around 16 million people.

The new layout

In the offices affected by the Polis project, 7,000 Postamat ATMs will be installed, 4,000 workstations for the provision of self-service public services, 500 lockers for the delivery of parcels, active 24 hours a day, while 5,000 will be installed outside the offices charging stations for electric vehicles and the installation of a thousand photovoltaic systems, a thousand smart building systems and environmental monitoring sensors on the roofs of the buildings that house the postal network. The plan also includes works outside the offices with a thousand spaces equipped to host cultural, health and wellness initiatives. Poste Italiane’s vocation to keep Italy connected is confirmed by the recognition of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, welcomed by a long applause. The CEO of Poste, Matteo Del Fante, claimed the characteristics of the project, recalling the decision to combine business with commitment to the country. Del Fante further adds: When I arrived in 2017, I found a list of post offices to be closed in the following twelve months. We said: we don’t close them. We have kept our commitment not to close even in the smallest municipalities. Today, with the Polis project, we are relaunching: not only are we keeping the offices open but we are also bringing public administration services to the offices.
