Tobacconists will be exempt from the obligation to accept credit card payments with regard to tobaccos and stamps. This was announced by the director of the Customs and Monopoly Agency, Marcello Minenna, who explains that he has completed the preliminary investigation for exemption from the obligation. A news given during the T2000 in Tour, the exhibition of products and services for the Tobacconist’s, organized in Catania. We are very satisfied – says Mario Antonelli, national president of the Italian Tobacconist Federation -. this is an issue that we have been pursuing without saving energy for a long time. The low marginality of these products and services in fact does not reconcile with the transaction costs of electronic money.

Tobacconists will therefore be an exception given that from June 30 that all merchants, artisans and professionals are required to accept electronic payments through Pos. Anyone who refuses risks a financial penalty of 30 euros to which 4% of the value of the transaction must be added for which the non-cash payment was refused.

Assotabaccai already in June had criticized the imposition of the obligation calling it a contradiction. According to the association, the tobacconists are concessionaires of the State and consequently the fiscal traceability already exists. The government was therefore asked to provide for an exception to the rule. Exemption now arrived for cigarettes, postage stamps, revenue stamps.
