Pisapia will not stand as a candidate: “We must return to good politics, Moratti is only looking for power”

He will not challenge Letizia Moratti at the helm of the Lombardy region. The former mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia, he excludes himself from the elections: he cannot be the candidate. He says that he is old now and that it is time to start again to elect their candidates democratically: with the primaries. “I’ve thought about it seriously,” he says to Courier, and adds “I have always believed that there are no ‘saviors of the fatherland’, but that the best results are the fruit of the united work of a community”.

According to Pisapia, it is time to reform the country’s progressive pole scheme, starting from the bottom. Certainly not from Letizia Moratti: “Those looking for votes from the center-left just because the right didn’t want him as their candidate is not coherent but just looking for power.” The former Lombard vice president is supported by the third pole of Matteo Renzi and Carlo Calenda, but there are those even within the Democratic Party who would not have a bad view of his rise in the progressive ranks. Just today the leader of the dem Roberta Pinotti, in an interview with Sheet, contributes to fueling doubt and ambiguity: “No to Moratti’s candidacy would be too hasty a response”. But the former mayor is clear and supports the urgency to return to good politics which, in his vocabulary, is that of consistency: “Moratti the candidate from the right to the quirinale in place of Mattarella? Or the one who, as we read in the newspapers, until a few days ago was dealing with a post as minister in the Meloni government and publicly complained about the failure to confirm the promise, true or not true, to be the candidate of the center-right in the next regional? Supporting the operation of the Third Pole, according to the former mayor, would be counterproductive: “If the center-left supported Moratti with a quick-change operation and then lost, the result would be to embark on the largest suicide operation in its history”, he says.
