The two appointments formalized in the CDM: an agreement was found between Meloni and Salvini. The former police chief goes to the prefecture of the capital, which has been uncovered for over two months

Victor Pisani is the new head of the State Police. He takes the place of Lambert Giannini, appointed prefect of Rome. This is what was decided by the Council of Ministers which has just ended. In the end, therefore, the government impasse was resolved: in the CDM of 4 May, the majority had not yet reached agreement for these two cases, after the squabbles also produced at the top of the Guardia di Finanza between the Lega and the Brothers of Italy. The prefecture of Rome had been waiting for a new boss for more than two months.

Pisani, 55, originally from Catanzaro, was deputy director of Aisi (internal secret services). Giannini was appointed Franco Gabrieli’s successor in March 2021. “Neither technical nor political”, we defined him here in the Foglio. At the end of the CDM, the comment of the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi also arrived: “Congratulations and best wishes to the prefect Lamberto Giannini for his appointment as prefect of Rome and to the prefect Vittorio Pisani for his appointment as Chief of Police. I am convinced that, thanks to their professionalism and experience, they will be able to best carry out the new prestigious positions at the service of the institutions and our citizens. I am sure, knowing the extraordinary qualities of both, that their appointment will help strengthen the action of the State in terms of the protection of rights and legality“, said the head of the interior ministry.

“On my behalf and on behalf of the whole city, a warm welcome to Lamberto Giannini, the new prefect of Rome. We will meet soon to start a constant dialogue. Legality, security and the good of our community are our shared goals. My best wishes for good job,” Rome mayor Roberto Gualtieri wrote on Twitter.
