Pd, the case of “Meloni capable” explodes. Orlando against Letta and Bonaccini

ROME. The case in the Democratic Party explodes last night, when excerpts from an interview with the New York Times come out in the agencies, in which Enrico Letta admits that Giorgia Meloni “was better than we expected”, on economic and financial issues. Adding that “some still fear an authoritarian turn, but Meloni has surprised many by showing a pragmatic vein since she came to power”. And concluding that the prime minister has abandoned her declared aggressiveness towards the European Union, «deciding to follow the rules and avoiding making mistakes. The reality is that it is strong. It is in that full honeymoon, with no alternative within the majority and the divided opposition”. Immediately controversy arises in the Democratic Party for what some read as an endorsement, clearly denied by the staff of the outgoing secretary. And also from the NYT, which in the same article notes that Letta, “like other critics of the government, underlines how there is much to worry about even on issues such as immigration, justice and the rights of homosexuals and abortion, even if recognized that in these sectors “nothing spectacular, nothing dramatic has been done so far”.

But this morning Andrea Orlando returns to it, with a frontal attack, also aimed at Stefano Bonaccini who at Coffee Break, argued that «Giorgia Meloni is not a fascist, she is a very capable person, she has very different ideas from mine, she will have to demonstrate be worthy to lead the Italian government. But let’s use restraint in criticism because they have just arrived”.

For the leader of the dem left, sponsor of Bonaccini’s opponent, Elly Schlein, in the primaries, he blurts out irritably in a facebook post: «Something is wrong. Let’s get along comrades and friends. If we argue, I believe in a sacrosanct way, that the budget maneuver encourages evasion, it does not help the real economy and rewards rents, it hits the poor and does not address the wage crisis. If we say that the NGO decree is against the Constitution, international treaties and the very sense of humanity. If we say that government officials, covered by the prime minister, have been responsible for serious behavior and an unacceptable use of institutions against the opposition.
